Menswear at Fashion Week: The Top 5 Unwearable Looks

Asher Levine SS12 Show
One isn't supposed to take fashion too seriously, after all, those at the Ivory Tower of Fashion were the ones who brought acid wash jeans, crazy shoulder-pads, and yes, even "ammonoid fossils" into fashion. So we've got here our top five creative, out-there and  simply unwearable looks (less you're Gaga) as seen on the menswear shows at fashion week so far. The Geometry shirts (vests?) from J.W. Anderson: Christopher Shannon's salon-inspired hairpiece: This crustacean ensemble from Asher Levine: The shimmery sequenced Libertine top (though we can imagine Jake Shears pull this off): The bulletproof-vest-cheongsam crossover as seen on Rad by Rad Hourani: If anyone has any other looks this season they think are...

Burberry Prorsum Menswear Spring 2012 at London Fashion Week

Burberry1-SS-header
Christopher Bailey has done it again at London Fashion Week with Burberry Prorsum showcasing a modern twist on classic British style. Bright colours, bold prints with a hint of vintage make the collection a contemporary interpretation of what your dad (or granddad)would have worn on a trip to the log cabins. We're loving the combination of the cheerful puffying parkas and the incredible detail on the shoes. The hertitage prints and the wooden toggles on the jackets give a natural aesthetic to the collection, whilst the burst of colour give a youthful vibe.   Mark our words, the mens shoes at Burberry Prorsum will be a hit this spring! Issey Miyake Twelve and Twelve 365 Watch

Issey-Miyake-Twelve-Watch
Issey Miyake has always been the Japanese father of simplistic design and refined elegance. His watches are no different. The Twelve watches are all made from stainless steel and fine leather. The utilitarian design removes all marking and numberings, instead relying on the cleverly crafted twelve angles on the case to reveal the time. The Issey Miyake Twelve 365 is similarly a combination of utilitarian design and understated style, as the numbers indicate the hour, minute, seconds in addition to day/date.

#NYFW Mens Spring Summer 2012: Pieces We Love and Hate (Part 2)

zm1
With New York Fashion Week come and gone, HommeStyler will be covering some of the trends and post-show reports. This is a continuation of this post, where we highlight the pieces this season at the menswear collection we love, and hate. What we not feelin' from the menswear collections at New York Fashion Week: In all honesty, we're not sure what this piece by Rad by Rad Hourani is. A bullet-proof vest? Something out of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? What we loved on the men's runways at New York Fashion Week: The impeccable suit ensembles from Zero + Maria Cornejo Zero + Maria Cornejo showed great suits this season. They had relaxing fits and lightweight fabrics, perfect for the Spring/Summer season. The rounded hems...

NYFW Mens Spring Summer 2012: Mens Suits

spurr8-header
The menswear runways at New York Fashion Week were awash with suits and shiny shoes this season. Of course, the suit is a standard for any man's wardrobe, but this season many designers played with proportions in their suits. Not extreme proportions, but subtle changes to the shirts and the hemlines were common. Playing with Portions (From left to right: Simon Spurr, Y-3 and Billy Reid) For example,  menswear designers extended the length of the shirts (and t-shirts) to add a relaxed touch to their suits. Some chose to have shorter shirts so they would be untucked. The colours were also bold and contrasted the print on the suits. Y-3 had loose t-shirts and tucked them to one side to add another...

#NYFW Mens Spring Summer 2012 Trends: Intricate prints

cb10 - header
The menswear designers for New York Fashion Week 2012 took inspiration from a lot of places, but one common trend that stood out was how much print there was on the runway. For most designers, the attention to detail lay 1) in the choice of the prints (from wallpaper-like to animal-esque) and 2) how they were used to create an overall look. Custo Barcelona created a safari-gone-wild collection by using colourful prints remininscent of wild animals and the jungles. Though not exactly daily-wear friendly, the looks were flamboyantly cohesive  (we think that's a new term to use). To add a touch of this to your own wardrobe, the best way to go is to go small. Look at the shoes and accessories. Slip-on shoes...

#NYFW Mens Spring Summer 2012 Trends: Modern Prep

TH-Look-3-header
The preppy look was another trend on the menswear runways at New York Fashion Week. Designers took inspiration from the student bodies of Ivy League universities and injected a dose of 2012. Prep classics were modernized with intricate prints and bold colours. There's also a lot more skin showing this season, with shorts going above the knees and hemlines moving up. Overall, the silhouettes were slim and tailored, which bring a refined touch to the bold colours. Steven Alan exemplified this. Tommy Hilfiger had an interesting twist to the preppy look by using camouflage prints. Whilst we think his camouflage jackets are stand out pieces, we know they're not everyone's cup of tea. On the other hand, the varsity jackets with polished...

#NYFW Mens Spring Summer 2012: Pieces We Love and Hate (Part 1)

generalidea5 - header
The great thing about fashion week is that you get an insight into what's going to be in style in the next season. The bad thing is that lots of people confuse what's in fashion with style. What's in fashion may come and go, but what's in style (technically) always remain. We here at HommeStyler believe that unless we absolutely love a piece of attire, we should always go for how timeless it can be (i.e., how many times you can wear it and how many years you'd wear it for), than how fashionable it is. So far, the New York Fashion Week hasn't given us a huge deal to lust after, but there are certainly some great pieces (and some awful...

#NYFW Mens Spring Summer 2012 Trends: Monochrome

nicholask4 - header
With New York Fashion Week in full bloom, we've decided to share the designs we like this season (so far) and the trends to expect in Spring/Summer 2012. If, like us, you're based in the southern hemisphere, then you're in luck, 'cause you can immediately integrate these looks into your wardrobe. Monochrome Lots of designers were showing monochrome in their ensembles, including Richard Chai, Duckie Brown and Tim Hamilton. The key to the looks were the mixture of shades within the same colour. The variations in fabric also provide subtle variations and gave their looks a muted elegance. Richard Chai One thing that some designers did to the liven up their monochromatic looks was to introduce a complimentary colour in the form of accessories,...

L’Occitane for Men Skin Care Product Review

hommestyler-kiehls-ultra-facial-moisturizer-image
Now that it's the end of winter, we're on the hunt for appropriate men's skin care products that would ease the transition into the warmer spring weather. Lucky for us, the retail staff at L'Occitane ("lox- ee- tahn") were happy to hand over some samples of their men's skin care range. L'Occitane Verdon Pure Face Wash L'Occitane Verdon Pure Face Wash Firstly, this face wash smells refreshing. It's got a light peppermint smell that's not too harsh, unlike many other men's skin care products. It uses sea-buckthorn water which has been used in Asia and Europe for centuries to nourish skin as well as promote wound-healing. The ingredients also states it uses genepi extract which helps fight free radicals (unstable...

5 Moisturizers for Men this Winter

hommestyler-kiehls-ultra-facial-moisturizer-image
With severe winds and ridiculous cold weather hitting Sydney lately, it's a good time to look out for moisturizers that keep your skin from looking chaffed and flaky this winter. So below are five facial moisturizers for men that we at HOMMESTYLER.com have our eyes on. These moisturizers were chosen for how quickly they penetrate the skin (without being oil), minimal irritating ingredients and how well they protect your skin against the blasting winter wind. In our research, we've found that there's a serious lack of quality skincare products for men, and yet, we're one of the fastest growing markets in the skin care industry. We've examined numerous men's product range and have to admit that no single brand (at least,...
