Oscars and the Art of the Tuxedo

Oscars and the Art of the Tuxedo With the Oscars happening this Sunday, expect plenty of media attention on what actresses will be wearing. Each year, there are hundreds of live shows across the globe that focus on the showbiz’s night of nights. Although the limelight mainly focuses on women, here, we’re only interested in what the men are wearing. You’d think that with millions of dollars at their disposal and personal stylists at their heels, the men of the Oscars would pull off tuxedos with ease and elegance. But as the New York Times comments, lots of stars “commit sartorial blunders at the Academy Awards”. “They will wear their pants too long and puddled on their shoes, as Brad Pitt did at the recent...

Jimmy Choo Belgravia Scored Leather High Top Sneakers

Jimmy Choo Belgravia Scored Leather High Top Sneakers 2
Jimmy Choo will always be synonymous with luxury footwear for women, but the brand's foray into men's shoes has been equally well received. The range has the usual leather shoes and loafers, but Jimmy Choo also experiments with sneakers with great success. Take for example, this pair of Belgravia Scored Leather High Top Sneakers. Featuring black leather and suede trims, there’s also a logo stamp at the heel as well contrasting light grey rubber soles. The design is sleek and minimal, quietly whispering luxury without being pretentious. Thanks to celebrities like Kanye West and the enduring popularity of sneaker collecting, there’s less stigma attached to splurging on sneakers and quality men’s footwear. That said, this piece of art will still set you...

Paris Fashion Week A/W 2012-2013 Highlights

paris fashion week autumn fall winter 2012 2013 mens hommestyler blog
Paris Fashion Week A/W 2012-2013 Highlights Paris Fashion Week Autumn/Winter: Raf Simons, Kenzo Homme and Dior Homme If the undertone of Milan Fashion Week was that of fear and gloom, then Paris' would be more introspective. Designers explored and questioned what luxury brands were meant to be and demonstrated why fashion is sometimes an escape from reality. The collections at Paris were less restricted than its Italian counterparts in terms of structure and style, and whilst there was great tailoring in wool suits and formal pants, we found the spotlight were on designers who added playful touches to their collection - think models with printed sneakers, oversized jumpers and toy necklaces.   Dior Homme A/W 2012-2013 Whether it was the capes or the trousers, the caps...

Milan Fashion Week: A/W 2012-2013 Highlights (Part 2)

Milan Fashion Week Autumn Fall Winter 2012 2013 menswear hommestyler blog 2
Milan Fashion Week: A/W 2012-2013 Highlights (Part 2) Milan Fashion Week: DSquared2, Burberry, Giorgio Armani Milan Fashion Week this season showed very gentlemanly and conservative collections. Maybe it's the economic gloom but business suits, overcoats and traditional trench coats are back. Total black also seemed to be the colour of choice with cobalt blue, charcoal grays and some deep reds making special appearances. Despite the somewhat dull palette choices, designers showed their craft in the details. Artful layering, silk embroidery and military broaches were all on show at Milan Fashion Week. Designers also played with textures by mixing fabrics like wool, velvet, leather, and even fur for a touch of luxury. This is part two of our Milan Fashion Week highlights coverage. You can...

Milan Fashion Week: Autumn/Winter 2012-2013 Highlights Milan Fashion Week: Dolce & Gabbana, Vivienne Westwood, Bottega Veneta The menswear shows at Milan Fashion Week stuck to the tradition and familiar this season. Perhaps influenced by the Eurozone crisis, the colour palettes on the runways were filled with somber blacks and grays. Still, some designers reached out for bright colours like teal and rich purples, whilst Dolce and Gabbana chose to spring golden details in their collection. This is part one of our Milan Fashion Week highlights coverage. You can view part 2 here. Some noteworthy menswear shows at Milan Fashion Week this season include: Dolce & Gabbana A/W 2012-2013 Dolce & Gabbana was a standout collection at Milan Fashion Week with their dramatic display of luxurious gold...

Marc Jacobs Spring Summer 2012 Lookbook

marc jacobs mens spring summer 2012 hommestyler fashion blog
Marc Jacobs Spring Summer 2012 Lookbook A good thing about living in the southern hemisphere is that unlike our northern hemisphere counterparts, when designers' campaigns roll out, we get to immediately incorporate them into our look without having to wait a whole season. Marc Jacobs just released his Spring/Summer 2012 men's lookbook and we'll definitely be taking our cues from this great collection. Shot my Lorenzo Marcucci and modeled by Leopols Nilsson, Marc Jacob's latest offering is a eclectic mix of bright coloured minimalistic staples with innovative accessories. The traditional pieces are your usual cotton suits and tailored shirts, but they are sprinkled with subtle touches like the gold buttons on the blazers. For the trousers, Jacobs chose to use draw strings, loosening...

Tom Ford Spring Summer 2012 Lookbook

tom ford 2012 spring summer lookbook mens feature image
Tom Ford recently released his 2012 Spring Summer lookbook - and what can we expect? His signature tailored silhouettes, muted suits, with a dash of colour and, of course, shiny fabrics. The lookbook, shot by Tom Ford himself, also showcases delicate prints on shirts, pocket squares and ties as well as bright boat shoes. In particular, the alligator print shoes and the in-your-face polka dot ties get our seal of approval. Examining the Spring Summer lookbook, one can't help but reminisce Ford's first foray into film A Single Man - Tom Ford's latest collection oozes decadence, luxurious fabrics and of course, sex appeal. And of course, what Ford collection would be complete without nudity?  ...

Buberrry Prorsum Spring Summer 2012 Men’s Shoes

Buberry Prorsum mens shoes spring summer 2012 hommestyler blog
As we've covered here before, Burberry Prorsum's Spring Summer 2012 collection was spot on. It was a menswear collection that married the warm colours of spring with summer sensibilities in terms of fabric and style. But it was the shoes that got our attention. The intricate details with the weaved leather colliding with bold prints give each shoe a unique and varied texture. The woven straw is impeccably handcrafted and adds a touch of tribal-influence. Particularly interesting is the cork at the base of each shoe. The shoes are all soft calf skin and they pair well with shorts or jeans - either way, the shoes will be the centre of attention and we don't mind a bit.  ...

Versace and H&M Collection.. next Ford?

H&M is rumored to follow up its Versace collection with a range from Tom Ford, former creative director of Gucci. Creative adviser to H&M, Margareta van den Bosch said that Ford is “a very interesting name”, but when asked whether we can expect a designer collaboration with Ford soon, she said, “I can say, I wouldn’t mind.” Van den Bosch said there has been no contact with the renowned designer, and a spokesperson for Tom Ford declined to comment. Amidst the news, the much anticipated Versace for H&M line goes on sale globally this week. The collection is H&M’s eighth collaboration with a designer. The guest designer collections began  in November 2004 with Karl Lagerfeld designing a one-off collection for the Stockholm-baed fashion...

Don’t Wash Your Jeans, Freeze Them

LEVIS Strauss Jeans Water Less Collection
Jeans are essential in any man's wardrobe, but sadly, there's some bad news: your denim might not be so great for our beloved planet. Denim power brand Levi Strauss has revealed that the typical pair of blue jeans consumes an average of 919 gallons of water during its lifestyle - the equivalent of 15 spa-size bathtubs. So in an attempt to reduce the environmental impact of their jeans,  Levi Strauss has helped champion a non-profit program that teaches farmers in India, Brazil and Africa the latest rainwater-capture and irritation techniques. Levi has introduce a brand of stone-washed denim smoothed with rocks, not water. It's called the Water<Less Jeans Collection. Aside from helping out the environment, Levi's move also helps their own existence....

Lanvin Men’s Accessories Spring Summer 2012

lanvin mens accessories 2011
The new men's accessories offering from Lanvin will tickle the fancy of those who are into tribal and Aztec prints. The bag appear  lightweight and practical enough, but - Lavin being Lanvin - it will no doubt cost a fortune. That said, we like the bag. It seems spacious enough for putting gymwear and the print grabs our attention. We're dissappointed in the ties and accessories this season though. The ties look gimicky, and the beads looks like it came out of a  surfer's wardrobe. We might change our mind when we see it in person....
