Here are three of the latest men’s grooming products that we’ve reviewed at HommeStyler.
The Bluebeard’s Revenge
Heralding from the UK, Bluebeard’s Revenge has some pretty slick shaving products. They bring the art of shaving back into mainstream grooming and have a complete set of shaving products, with a shaving cream, post-shave balm.. and a brush too.
The Bluebeard’s Revenge shaving range is a very man’s man product line, evident from the distinctive smell. The application of their shaving cream is thick and frothy and feels cool on the skin. It reminds us of old school barbers where they’d lather shaving cream on your beard. The post-shaving balm is excellent. It feels velvety, leaves the skin smooth and thoroughly moisturized. It also contains aloe vera to calm the skin, but ironically, it also contains a fragrance, which can irritate those with sensitive skin.
The best part of the Bluebeard’s Revenge is that they manage to make shaving fun again – something that not a lot of grooming brands do. Right now, many guys see shaving as a necessity as opposed to an art form, which is a shame. It’s nice to see Bluebeard’s Revenge bring the art of shaving back.

Dermalogica Shaving range – Pre-Shave Guard, Invigorating Shave Gel and Post-Shave Gel
Dermalogica is a well-recognised brand with dermatologist-approved skin care products, so we were excited to try out their shaving product range. They have three key products in this range, the Dermalogica Pre-Shave Guard, Invigorating Shave Gel and the Post-Shave Gel.
Dermalogica Pre-Shave Guard – The smell is amazing on this product. It might be the clove flower oil or the camphor, but this is definitely a selling point. Beyond the smell, the pre-shave guard makes your skin soft and prepared for a shave. You use this Pre-Shave Guard by cleansing your face and then applying a thin layer to where you want to shave. You then apply your shaving cream or shaving gel on top. It may seem like an extra step, but the results shows because it left our face super smooth. This works particularly well with coarse hairs.
Dermalogica Invigorating Shave Gel – The reason this product gets our thumbs up is because there’s no artificial fragrance or colour. Really important for those with sensitive skin, so this is highly recommended. The gel consistency is also a nice change from heavy creams, and has a cooling effect in Summer. It also includes Hyaluonic Acid – and important ingredient which fights off dryness and keeps the skin supple by helping absorb and bind water – much like a sponge (but on a molecular level).
Dermalogica Post-Shave Balm – Whilst many guys are picky about their shaving cream and/or shaving gel – we are particularly looking out for a solid post-shave balm. A good post-shave balm needs to have two things: proven anti-irritants to sooth the skin and also moisturizes skin. This balm is a decent balm; it contains licorice root and horse chestnut to calm skin aggravation, but also has essential oils to prevent skin from drying out. The best part of this balm, is that it contains a Beta Hydroxy Acid (BHA) in the form of salicylic acid which helps open and clean skin pores – perfect for men with oily skin.

Derby Moisturizing Super Shaving Cream
The Derby Shaving Cream comes in several scents – lemon, lavender, menthol and normal (no scent) – we got to try the lemon one. The product is easy to squeeze out and on application, the cream is smooth and forms a decent lather. In our opinion, the lemon scent smelt fresh, but it also reminded us of household cleaning products – we think the no scent version will be the choice for most guys. Whilst have “moisturizing” in its title, since it left our skin somewhat dry. Not a huge deal if you put on a moisturizer afterward though. Overall, the product is decent and gives a good shave. Good for men who want something simple with minimal fuzz.
